This globally renowned 24 month programme will enable you to gain in-depth expertise and practical skills in prosthodontics, and other dental subdisciplines that underpin effective patient care. You will be based in the University’s Dental Hospital and School, where you will have a range of support from consultants and dental technicians. You will have access to all of our academic and professional services that are integral to our University.
What you'll study
To undertake this course, you must hold a recognised dental degree, ideally with at least two years post-qualification experience and necessary language skills.
You will study a variety of different modules which will allow you to obtain the skills to practice dentistry with a special interest or work in academia. These modules include fixed and removable prosthodontics, interfaces with other dental subdisciplines and clinical governance which is at the heart of safe patient care. You will also be required to write a dissertation and will be closely supported in completing this activity.
Throughout your studies you will treat patients under supervision, and attend consultant clinics. You will benefit from undertaking some laboratory work including gaining an appreciation of CAD-CAM technology.
After you graduate
This qualification will provide you with the skills, knowledge and experience required to enhance your dental career. This course provides you with a sound preparation for the MFDS/MJDF examination of the Royal Colleges and UK registrarable qualifications. It is not approved for eligibility to sit the MRD examination but offers a foundation for this specialist qualification. On completion of this course, you may consider enhancing your academic career or clinical practice with a special interest.
The Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP), provides user-friendly, evidence-based guidance to support dental teams. In addition, we in Dundee have shaped our understating and the application of substrate limitation in managing dental caries. We have other focused research priorities such as oro-facial clefting, dental materials and meeting the dental needs of the homeless and prisoners.
We aspire to have an imperceptible link between effective care of patients and research… you will be part of this.
