We were delighted to welcome Professor Piranit Kantaputra to Dundee Dental School last month.
Friday, August 4, 2017

Professor Kantaputra is the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Medical Genetics Research, Division of Paediatric Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry at Chang Mai University in Thailand. Professor Kantaputra gave an extremely interesting talk at Dundee Dental School about “What face and teeth tell you about syndromes”.

His major reseach interest is finding the causes of rare Craniofacial Malformation Syndromes, especially when teeth are involved. He has published more than 64 papers in international journals and two book chapters. Professor Kantaputra has identified more than 10 new genetic syndromes, some bearing his name.

Professor Peter Mossey said, “His knowledge and expertise in finding genetic causes for Dental and Craniofacial disorders through careful examination of phenotype (presenting features) and genotype (DNA) is 2nd to none.”

Since Dundee University Dental School has Craniofacial Malformations as one of its major research themes over the last 20 years, his expertise complements that of Professors Peter Mossey, Grant McIntyre and their colleagues at the WHO Collaborating Centre. It is hoped that this will lead to productive collaborations between Dundee and Chang Mai in this field in the future.
