Dundee’s innovative oral surgery training

The University of Dundee has developed the first course of its kind that trains oral surgeons in implant techniques using Thiel-embalmed cadavers.

The course is a co-initiative between the School of Dentistry and the University’s Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) which is the UK’s first facility to embalm donated bodies using the Thiel soft-fix method which preserves cadavers with life-like flexibility and tissue quality.

Graham Chadwick - Dental Erosion, a Lifestyle Window

Graham Chadwick's Discovery Days talk focussed on what can be done to avoid tooth decay. 
Many have heard of dental decay but less of dental erosion. Erosion brings with it discomfort and deterioration of the smile. It is often a manifestation of lifestyle choices. An understanding of these can provide opportunities to individuals to prevent the condition and enhance the success of treatments.

100% Student Satisfaction

We are delighted to announce that Dentistry at Dundee ranked No. 1 in the UK in the 2017 National Student Survey (NSS), receiving an incredible 100% overall satisfaction rating from our students.

The University of Dundee is ranked 9th in the UK in the 2017 NSS, achieving a top 10 place for a second successive year.

The University recorded overall satisfaction of 90 per cent, well above the sector average of 84 per cent, and was ranked 2nd in Scotland. 

Dundee dentists pilot public health coaching in prison

A health coaching initiative developed by dentists from the University of Dundee has led to a significant shift in the behaviour and wellbeing of prisoners at HM Prison Perth.

The team from the Dental Health Services Research Unit (DHSRU) developed the People in Prison, Health Coaching for Scotland (PeP-SCOT)programme to provide health coaching training for people in prison.

Inaugural SIG Meeting and Symposium on Communication in Oral Healthcare held in Dundee

The Special Interest Group of Communication in Oral Healthcare, provides an opportunity to network and collaborate with fellow researchers/teaching staff across countries in the field of communication skills research and teaching. 

Since the announcement of establishment of the Special Interest Group (SIG) in Communication in Oral Healthcare, EACH early this year, the inaugural SIG Meeting and Symposium on Communication in Oral Healthcare was hosted in the School of Dentistry, University of Dundee on the 21st June 2016. 

Dentistry Examination Success

The Dental School is delighted that all of the final year BDS students passed their examinations at the first sitting on 29 May 2015.  This is the first time that this level of success has been achieved since 2004. The students and staff will celebrate at the Final Year Dinner on the 30 May and also at the Graduation Ceremony and Garden Party on 26 June.

All the Oral Health Science students also passed their final examinations on the 19 May and therefore it is a double celebration for the school.

'Bronze' for Nawaf in Dubai


Dundee Dental School PhD student Nawaf Mohammed Almustafa was awarded third place in poster competition at the 18th International Dental Conference & Arab Dental Exhibition, held in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Nawaf's findings focused on the force applied by dentists during the cementation of All Zirconia Three Unit Bridges and the impact on seating.
